At Elite Sports Basketball Rwanda (ESBR), we believe that basketball is more than just a game — it’s a powerful tool for youth development. Since our founding in October 2014 by Patrick Habiyaremye, our journey has been focused on fostering talent, building character, and creating a platform where young athletes can shine on and off the court. Over the past decade, we’ve seen remarkable growth and success, positioning ESBR as a key player in Rwanda’s basketball scene.

Our Mission: Empowering Young Athletes

Our mission at ESBR is simple but profound: to nurture the next generation of basketball talent in Rwanda. Through structured basketball programs and expert coaching, we aim to help our athletes reach their highest potential. We believe in the holistic development of young people, which means we don’t just focus on physical skills, but also on important values like discipline, teamwork, sportsmanship, and leadership.

ESBR offers comprehensive basketball development programs that cater to various age groups, starting from U12 up to U23. Whether it’s our weekly training sessions or off-season workouts, we are committed to keeping our athletes in top form all year round. We also host annual events like the Elite Invitational Tournament, which provides a competitive platform for our players to showcase their talents.

A Legacy of Excellence: Producing National Team Players

One of our greatest achievements has been watching many of our athletes rise to the ranks of Rwanda’s U18 and U16 National Teams. Our players have consistently impressed on the national stage, demonstrating the skills, determination, and teamwork that ESBR instills. This success is a testament to the dedication of our coaching staff, led by Patrick Habiyaremye, a FIBA Level 1 Certified Coach and Assistant Coach for Rwanda’s U18 Boys National Team.

Our development philosophy isn’t just about winning — it’s about creating well-rounded individuals who can carry the lessons they learn on the court into their everyday lives. We encourage our players to embrace a growth mindset, focusing on constant improvement and personal responsibility.

At the heart of ESBR’s program are four core values that guide everything we do:

• Discipline: The cornerstone of any successful athlete. We teach our players to respect the game, their coaches, and each other by being disciplined in practice and in life.
• Friendship: Teamwork goes beyond the court. We emphasize building strong relationships and a sense of community among our players, ensuring they support one another both in games and in personal growth.
• Sportsmanship: Winning is important, but how you play the game matters even more. We teach our athletes to compete with integrity, respecting opponents and the game itself.
• Skills: From ball-handling to shooting to defense, we focus on the technical aspects of basketball, ensuring that every player leaves our program with improved skills and a deeper understanding of the sport.
